Gardman range is available Australia wide at Bunnings Warehouse and selected hardware and independent garden outlets.
What ratio of water/chemical do I mix if I want to spray the ‘hose-on’ product manually?
We recommend that the product is mixed in a ratio of 20 litres of water to 1 litre of product. For more information, please download the Brunnings Dilution Rates Info Sheet on how to mix your hose-on chemicals to use in a watering can or sprayer.
What do I do if my ‘hose-on’ product is not working?
While we aim to provide you the easiest possible application of your product, from time to time you may experience some difficulties. If the hose-on applicator is having trouble drawing up the contents of the bottle, please try the steps below:
Confirm that both holes are unobstructed. Ensure that you put your finger or tool over the right hand hole.
What is your water pressure like? There needs to be a normal flow and the tap needs to be opened completely to achieve maximum results. If the water pressure is too high, reduce it slightly. If the water pressure it too low, the product will not work properly as it requires enough suction to draw the product up through the straw. If the water pressure is normal, proceed to the next step.
Point the ‘hose-on’ applicator down at a 45 degree angle in front of your feet. If this starts to suck the chemical up, resume normal spraying action. This often resolves the problem. However, should you still experience issues, please contact us.
How long before I can let my pet(s)/child(ren) out to play on my lawn once it has been treated with a hose-on applicator product?
Generally, it’s safe once the product has dried. However, we would suggest to keep them off the lawn for a minimum of 24 hours (ideally 48 hours) as this will be enough time to ensure the lawn has taken up the treatment. Pets that may graze on the lawn (e.g. rabbits or even dogs) should be discouraged from eating any of the grass till after the first mowing (remove the clippings). Do not mow for 7 days after applying and do not feed the lawn clippings from the first mowing to pets or livestock.
Is your coir organic? Does it contain any fertilisers?
To be called organic in Australia requires certification from accredited bodies. This is very difficult for products sourced from other countries. However Brunnings premium coir products are sourced only from coconuts, meaning the coir is both natural and derived from a renewable resource. It is a by product of the coconut harvesting process and is therefore environmentally sustainable and causes no harm to the tree.
Note that some of our coir blocks contain fertiliser to assist plant growth. These are typically not an organic input. Please consult the label.
Why do some of your fertilisers carry a warning for cadmium, mercury or lead (heavy metals)?
All companies selling fertilisers are required to carry specifically worded warnings if heavy metal contents are above a minimum level. This is required by the various Department of Agriculture bodies in each State. You will note that all reputable suppliers carry the same warnings on their bags. There would be very few traditional granular fertilisers sold that would not be required to carry the warning.
“However this requirement is almost meaningless for home garden users.”
It was developed for commercial users of fertilisers where heavy metal build up can occur due to the very high frequency of use. It is almost impossible for dangerous levels of heavy metal to build up in home garden use as a result of traditional home garden fertilisers. Unfortunately there is no separate labelling standard for home garden use.
I have stained my concrete path/driveway/patio with your Path Weeder, how do I remove the stains?
Although we acknowledge this on our product label, sometimes customers have missed this. Unfortunately the stain is quite difficult to remove. This is because it has been applied to a porous surface and the stain is actually below the surface. We recommend the following options in the first instance:
CLR: Readily available from most hardware stores.
Bondall Bore, Rust & Tannin Stain Remove: Generally found in Bunnings stores. The Bondall product may cost a bit more, but in the past has been proven to be an effective solution to the problem.
I am using one of your 3L sprays and the contents is not drawing out. Can you help?
Like all trigger sprays, priming the trigger for the first time is key. This can require some vigorous pumping, sometimes up to 20 times to get it started. If you have tried this and it still fails to pump, it may be that the tube has fallen out of the trigger mechanism. Unscrew the cap and check that the tube is properly inserted into the trigger hole, then screw the cap back on.
Where can I find your Safety Data Sheets?
Our Safety Data Sheets are available for download from our website in PDF format. You can access our SDS library by using the links located in either the top navigation bar or in the Site Map bar on the bottom page of the website or by clicking here.
Your Ant & Termite Killer says to mix with process oil, what is process oil?
Process oil is another term for vegetable oil.
I can’t find the instructions for Paspalum Kill, what are the instructions for this?
Brunnings Paspalum Kill has a new style label that peels back and re-sticks (so that you can open numerous times), with the instructions being underneath. Simply look for the “Peel Here” indicator on the right hand side of the label and peel back from the top right hand corner to expose the instructions. Please use care when lifting to separate pages as the back panel should remain stuck to the bottle.
Why do I need to shake all liquid products before I use them?
We advise that all liquid products should be shaken before use to ensure that the product is mixed correctly as some settling may occur when the product is stored.
What is the difference between selective and non-selective weed killers?
Non-selective weed killers will KILL MOST PLANTS/WEEDS on contact while a selective weed killer is designed to kill specific types of plants, usually grasses and broadleaf weeds.
Should I use Feed ‘n’ Weed or Bindii Kill on my broadleaf lawn?
Do NOT use Feed ’n’ Weed or Bindii Kill on a broadleaf lawn like Buffalo as it may cause extensive damage. It is designed to work on broadleaf weeds, which makes broad leaf grasses vulnerable.
We recommend the use of Weed Kill for Buffalo for these established lawns. If unsure, we suggest you test the spray on a small area first to ensure that it is safe for use on your lawn.
Should I use Weed Kill for Buffalo on my Couch lawn?
You can use either this product or Feed ‘n’ Weed on your Couch lawn.
Does Brunnings Bindii Kill only kill Bindii on my lawn?
Brunnings Bindii Kill will kill Bindii, clover and broad leaf weeds including cudweed, wireweed, dandelion, capeweed, dock, lambs tongue, plantains and creeping oxalis. DO NOT use this product on a Buffalo lawn.
Are Sphagnum Moss and Peat Moss the same?
Sphagnum Moss is sometimes referred to as Peat Moss however do not confuse the two, they are completely different. Sphagnum moss is the live moss growing on the top of the swamp and peat moss is the decaying matter below the swamp surface.
Why do I sometimes find prickles in my moss?
As Sphagnum Moss is a natural resource, there are aspects of the moss and its surroundings which can cause contamination. Gorse is a prominent species growing in many of the swamps where sphagnum moss is harvested and can be found is low grade moss. As we only use Premium Grade Classic Sphagnum Moss, the majority of coarse contamination is removed during the production, however some pieces may still remain.
I have always bought your Garden Fertilisers/Rose Food/Fruit & Citrus Food/Tomato & Vegetable Food/Lawn Food/Complete Garden Food/Azalea & Camellia Food and noted that the packaging now carries a WARNING. Am I at risk of heavy metal poisoning when using this product?
Brunnings Garden Products state the following “Use of this product may result in cadium, mercury or lead residues in excess of the Maximum Permissible Concentration (MPC) in plant and animal products and may also result in accumulation of these residues in soils.
“However this requirement is almost meaningless for home garden users”. For more information, please click the link below for a very good article from Burkes Backyard website featured in June 2000 on this exact subject, which you may find useful.
I purchased solar lights and they are no longer working, what do I do?
First, we suggest changing the rechargeable batteries in the light to see if this has any effect. Also, make sure the light is switched on and in a location where it will receive at least 8 hours of full sunlight to charge properly. If the lights are still not working, we recommend bringing them back to place of purchase for a refund or exchange.
I bought your Advanced/Sonic pest repeller and set it up, but I still have mice/rats?
The Big Cheese Advanced Pest Repeller/Sonic Pest Repellers may take up to 28 days for the full deterrent effect. This is because there is likely to be a nest already. Rodents will only leave reluctantly. Sonic does have some limitations. The ultra sound does not pass through doors and walls therefore it is effective only in the room in which the unit is plugged in.
Where a repeller is plugged in, it will deter rodents from a room area of up to 37 metres square.
For best results, it is recommended that sonic products be used as a deterrent. If you already have an infestation, it is recommended that traditional style traps or baits be used to eliminate the infestation. The sonic products are then ideally used to deter further infestations.
It is a good idea to set some traps against the walls outside the room where the Repeller is plugged in so when the rodent runs out of the room, you will catch it whichever way it runs.
Can you use the Advanced/Sonic Pest Repellers with health equipment such as a heart monitor?
The product is EMC tested and approved and so will not interfere with normal household appliances including TV’s and radios. However, in a situation of extreme sensitivity, particularly of healthcare equipment such as this, we do not recommend its use.
My sonic pest repeller is making a noise, should this happen?
The unit should be silent unless the test button is activated. If the unit is making an audible noise, this may indicate a fault with the unit and we recommend returning it to the place of purchase with the receipt.
How do I get the best performance from my sonic repeller?
To maximise performance from your sonic pest repeller, we recommend leaving the unit operating continuously. Make sure that all food is stored out of the reach of rodents. Also, avoid placing the unit behind furniture and curtains and keep the unit positioned away from direct heat sources such as radiators, cookers and other appliances (refrigerators) that product heat. To achieve maximum results, ensure that the unit is plugged in at ankle level.
What’s the difference between the Sonic Pest Repeller & the Advanced Pest Repeller?
The Big Cheese Sonic Pest Repeller operates by emitting an ultrasonic sound wave sweep at a frequency of 30-60kHz, which is above the hearing range of humans and non-rodent pets such as dogs and cats. Because of its high frequency, the sound emitted by the Sonic Pest Repeller behaves in a similar way to light, as opposed to, the sound from a stereo. In this way, the ultrasound is reflected by solid objects such as walls and doors, but will not penetrate them to fill the rooms adjacent.
Rooms and a building with hard surfaced (kitchens, sheds and greenhouses) are ideal environments in which to use a Sonic Pest Repeller. They can also be used in rooms with soft furnishings, such as bedrooms and living rooms, but take care not to obstruct the area in front of the unit. Rodents find the high frequency sound distressing and will move to a less hostile environment.
In addition to the ultrasonic signal, The Advanced Pest Repeller produces an electromagnetic pulse which passes through the electrical wiring of your home, including within walls, ceilings and beneath flooring. Precise coverage areas will vary according to the wiring patterns of the property, however, these cavity areas are the typical nesting sites for rodent pets and their habitat will be disrupted by the electro-magnetic signal.
We have a pet hamster/gerbil/guinea pig/rabbit, can we still use the sonic repellers?
Never use the Sonic Pest Repellers around rodent pets such as gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.
My pet ate a rodent that was killed with a Big Cheese bait, what should I do?
This is called secondary poisoning. The Big Cheese Difenacoum baits present a lower risk due to the very low amount of bait/active consumed by the rodent. We recommend as a precaution you watch for symptoms and, if in doubt, visit the vet with the label from the bait which the rodent would’ve eaten. If you use the Ultra Power bait, this is much stronger and presents a high risk. We recommend you take your pet to the vet immediately with the label from the bait.
We recommend you watch for symptoms. If in doubt, visit the vet with the label from the bait which the rodent would have eaten.
What bait is used on the “pre-baited” products?
The “bait” is a powerful, natural, sweet smelling attractant to entice rats and mice.
How do the rodent bait stations work?
The rodent bait station is designed to keep poison baits away from non-target animals and children. To open the casing, place the supplied key in the side of the unit with the prongs facing down. Push the key all the way into the lock and gently lift the key up. This will open the locking mechanism.
This product is designed to help protect children, pets and non-target animals from direct contact with the contents. It may not withstand a prolonged attack by a large, hungry animal or other determined brute force. When using loose bait there is a risk that the contents may be tipped out by an unauthorised user. If any of these situations is considered possible, locate the baited station in areas away from direct access by children and pets.
Can I reuse a Big Cheese trap once I’ve caught a rat or mouse?
All of the Big Cheese products can be re-used after rodent has been caught. Simply dispose of the captured pest and reset the trap. Always wash your hands after handing the trap and/or any bait product.
Do I have to kill the rodent, or is there a way I can catch them without harming them?
We have a range of welfare friendly products you can use that capture pests without harm. The Live Catch Mouse Trap will catch one mouse, while the Multi-catch Mouse Trap can catch 10 or more mice in one setting. For larger rodents, the Rat Cage Trap is ideal.
Where is the best spot to place to mouse trap?
Mice have very poor eyesight and rely heavily on their whiskers to guide them. This is why you’ll normally see mice running along the side of a wall. Place 2 traps, 4-5 metres apart along a wall to maximise the chance of catching the mouse.
How long after setting a trap will I capture a rat or mouse?
Each rodent is different. Mice are very curious and easily adapt to new objects and surroundings, whereas rats are the opposite. A mouse is more likely to be caught in the first 2-3 days, while a rat may take up to week or longer. Once one or two rats have been caught, other rats are usually aware of this and are likely to leave the dwelling, realising it isn’t a safe haven for them.

How do The Buzz Fly & Wasp Traps products work?
The Buzz range of fly and wasp traps contains a non-toxic attractant that Flies and European Wasps love. Simply open the enclosed sachet and mix with water.
Are your potting mix/compost bags recyclable?
Potting mix and compost bags can be recycled through various supermarkets through their soft plastics recycling program. This includes both the plastic and woven polypropylene types (cut into A3 size pieces and ensure they are as clean as possible).
In cases where kerbside pickup is the only option, please check with your local council on their recycling guidelines to ensure this type of material can be accepted..
